KPMG & REC Report on Jobs February 2025
The headline figures evidence:
- Fastest decline in temp billings since mid-2020
- Pay inflation weakens at the start of 2025
- Vacancies continue to tumble
- Staff availability continues to rise, but to a slower degree
We now have vacancies at their weakest level since the country was gripped by COVID-19 and the demand for permanent staff has contracted for the past 17 months.
And only last week the Bank of England halved the growth forecast from 1.5% to 0.75%.
No, it's not great reading but neither is it news to anyone in business. It's just the economists and politicians who are endlessly surprised.
What can I add that's helpful? That I haven't said before?
Only that, if you're hiring, accept that with uncertainty many potential jobseekers stay put. So any hiring process should start by considering what you have to offer the person you're looking for, which makes it worth them moving.
I have lots of blogs which will tackle some of the specifics. I hope they're helpful.
