KPMG & REC Report on Jobs March 2026

The headline figures evidence:

  • Permanent staff appointments fall at weakest rate for nearly three years

  • Demand for staff declines at softest pace in nice months

  • Rates of pay growth ease amid further increases in staff availability

Just as things look like they might be about to turn a corner, some other catastrophe hits.

Anyone doing business in 2026 is resilient, if nothing else.

But if you're considering hiring, it doesn't need to be difficult.

Speak to an experienced recruiter to help you understand the marketplace and get tips on how to attract (and retain) great people.

For example, a well-written advert should be a piece of marketing, not a cut-and-paste of the job spec and lots of information about your business.

There are no guarantees that you'll stop inappropriate applications, but job advertising done well will exclude fewer qualified people. The very people you want to attract.
