KPMG & REC Report on Jobs December 2025

The headline figures evidence:

  • Weaker, but still marked, reduction in permanent worker demand

  • Uncertainty and higher staffing expenses weigh on recruitment activity

  • Pick-up in permanent salaries as firms seek to attract talented candidates

There's that word again, uncertainty. Not good for businesses or consumers.

And so the gloom continues.

Next year will undoubtedly remain difficult, although we can be grateful that the Employment Rights Bill is slowly being watered down.

I expect that whilst many businesses will hunker down and just try to survive, there will be others which are agile enough to navigate the current challenges and be capable of growing.
