KPMG & REC Report on Jobs September 2025
The headline figures evidence:
- Permanent and temporary labour availability rises rapidly
- Recruitment activity falls at a softer, but still marked rate
- Starting salaries increase at the softest pace for four-and-a-half years
We have approximately three months until the budget, with tax rises expected, so it's reasonable to assume that businesses will remain cautious about investment and hiring. And therefore, the picture will remain the same for the survey until January 2026.
However, despite the numbers, it's good to remember that some sectors perform better than others at any given time, and it's advisable to understand from your hiring partners (like us) how you might be affected, depending on your recruitment need and your locality.
A seemingly impossible hire can become an easier one with the right support and advice.
We've filled jobs that have been on the market for many weeks, and desperation has set in.
