Case Study - ACA Qualified Accountant

Bedfordshire

Situation

An ACA qualified candidate, with 16 years post qualified experience approached Clarity looking for work having spent the past five years working self-employed for her own clients. She was attracted to Clarity having seen accountancy vacancies on our website.

Challenge

Once we had explored further it was clear that none of the roles we had available at that time were suitable for her needs since she was looking for a part time, flexible role in the Bedford area. Not only this, she was not looking for work immediately – wanting to start some months ahead when she had wound up her own work.

Methodology

Having had a full interview with her it was clear that her needs were not straight forward but that she was capable and was fully committed to the job search and looking for someone to assist her so that she did not experience a period of unemployment.

After discussing her exacting requirements, the consultant she met with put together a list of accountancy practices Clarity has a good relationship with and where she felt there would be a good fit for both parties.

The candidate and the Clarity consultant met again two months before she was going to be available, going over that list of clients, went through the list line by line, discussing each one, their size, their client base and building a picture of each of the organisations before agreeing which of the firms would be most suitable for Clarity to approach on her behalf.

Result

The Clarity consultant made contact with each of those agreed fifteen firms and six of them asked to see her full CV for consideration. Two of those asked to meet with her for a formal interview, both very different clients offering different environments but entirely suitable.

The candidate was offered a position at both firms and accepted one of those.

Conclusion

The candidate chose to take a position at one of those firms, a well-established practice which offered her career progression, based five minutes from her home with flexible working hours with allowed her a much needed work/life balance.
