Reducing Risk & Peace of Mind

Helping a Business to Reduce Risk During a Project

Situation

A large, well known British retailer with a large accounts department in Stevenage was relocating to Brackley at the same time as implementing a new accounting software package.

Challenge

The client needed a large temporary workforce to help pick up additional duties while the changes were being executed. The main needs were identified as being within the purchase ledger department including Purchase Ledger Clerks, Data Processors and Scanners. The business needed people with a good understanding of the accounts payable function with accurate inputting skills because the workload was so great that training would be minimal and mistakes would be costly. The roles were urgent, so candidates needed to be available immediately.

Methodology

Following a meeting with all the affected line managers we commenced a focussed recruitment campaign to build a talent pool of skilled, immediately available people who would commit fully to the role, providing support for a number of months. Retention was paramount given the extensive size of the task and the need to complete it within strict timescales.

Result

We supplied a large temporary workforce for the clients changing needs. All candidates were met, referenced and fully prepared before starting. We stayed in regular contact with candidates to make sure we knew if they were leaving or needed time off as well as keeping them engaged in their long assignments with good rates of pay, holiday pay, regular contact from their consultant and regular visits. We also created a campaign where we collected testimonials through the assignment so that the temporary workers had a certificate of feedback from their line manager which made them feel valued and appreciated, meaning they were more likely to see the length of the temporary assignment out to the end.

Conclusion

The client was able to successfully implement the new system and train the new staff on site before they relocated to Brackley within the 18 month timescale due to the additional help. Retention of staff was very high with several of the temporary staff assigned choosing to withdraw from the search for permanent work for the duration of the assignment.

“As a supervisor of a large team I was constantly relying on them to help me fill a role at short notice and they never let me down. As employment agencies go they are the remaining outfit that still treat employers and employees with respect and friendliness.”
