KPMG & REC Report on Jobs July 2024

When the market information was supplied for this survey, we were pre-election and now we're very much post-election and the Labour Party has promised to make big changes in their first 100 days in office.

So, despite its accuracy and doom and gloom, it's, of course, out of date.

With new political certainty and the promise of a focus on growth through building projects, I think we can expect a boom in hiring this autumn, after the usual summer holiday slump.

We know we can also expect employment law changes including more employee rights from day one, and an increase in the National Minimum Wage, with no age restrictions.

So the employer/employee landscape is about to change in the coming weeks, but we have that much-needed political certainty, with economic stability and the hope of an interest rate cut in the coming weeks and months.

We can expect to see more job vacancies and the movement of people who have been sitting tight in recent months.

That's good news for your business if you're looking for staff. But, be mindful that you'll be competing with other hirers and it's important to position yourselves favourably.

Did you know that we offer a recruitment consultation for an hour (or more) to help with that? Allowing you to thrash out concerns, get questions answered and learn how to attract the best people.

It's called Recruitment First Aid and you can learn more here.
