KPMG & REC Report on Jobs October 2021

"The October survey reflects just what we're seeing at Clarity, and the advice we're giving to hiring managers is 'be competitive'." Says Clare Wight.

"If the talent you want to attract is comfortable where they are, you need to give them a significant reason to leave. And where opportunity, flexibility or benefits are in short supply, that means hiking up salaries.

"Although this sounds very positive for the job seeker, what's not being talked about it how this is NOT having a positive effect on those with primary caring responsibilities, mainly women.

"With the real threat of school or class closures this winter due to Covid, and after school and holiday clubs not having resumed, individuals with those caring responsibilities are staying put rather than tying themselves up in knots to work out how they can cover those eventualities with a new employer where trust and holiday entitlement hasn't been built up.

"Employers who want to attract this pool of people need to demonstrate at the application stage that they have family-friendly policies."
