KPMG & REC Report on Jobs September 2021

"Of course candidate supply has dropped off," says Clare Wight.

"It's August. And not just any August, but one during a period where human beings who have had enormous change and instability forced upon them, are looking for stability.

"Candidate supply is going to remain a challenge for quite some time to come. Maybe forever. Because our lives have changed enormously and for individuals who are now having their needs met by their current employer, there's no urgency to move on.

"Watch out any employer that thinks we should all 'get back to normal' because that won't wash. You'll be the go-to business to find candidates for job vacancies and you'll find it virtually impossible to attract new people.

"That's not to say that companies that need their staff to be in the office five days a week are struggling to hire, because they're not (we're working with some), but it needs to be justified and you need to have other attractive traits.

"We've been hiring for is one such business, but the offices are in a peaceful rural location, no traffic jams and parking charges. The business is really well-established, stable, in a fast-growing industry and they are investing heavily. They also look for people with the right attitude over skill-set which means you'll be working alongside like-minded people, increasing your chances of a harmonious working environment.

"And their recruitment process is a dream. Fast, efficient, professional but friendly. Applicants feel valued at the outset.

"In the end, it's these businesses that will win out in the fight for finding talent."
