KPMG & REC Report on Jobs December 2020
Clare Wight, Managing Director for Clarity Appointments says
"For fear of sounding like a scratched record, the world has moved on a bit since this survey, as is the case every month, since things can change very quickly.
We enjoyed a good November for placements but this was as the result of a couple coming through later than anticipated, not because we're unique to the other survey contributors. And we experienced more conversations around temporary to permanent recruitment options. This is because of continued uncertainty about the economic outlook globally. Have we already forgotten about the US election, for example?
But since the statistics were compiled, it feels as if the outlook has changed again.
Yes, we had a lockdown (no surprises) and continued restrictive movement. Also no surprise. But we're used to our freedom being curtailed now, businesses which can find a workaround, have. And with a vaccine here, it does feel as if there is a chink of light at the end of this long tunnel.
We're seeing some of our high street retailers and restaurants struggle but there are few surprises, with those hardest hit having entered the crisis in bad shape.
As an accountancy specialist, we've seen the usual demand for help in December with businesses set on moving forward swiftly.
This is very positive indeed since accountants are not a demographic known for risk-taking.
Undoubtedly there will be no 'normal' for a long time to come, but business leaders are learning to live with the pandemic, are no longer behaving in crisis mode and instead, making firm and clear commercial decisions to enable them to succeed in 2021 and beyond.
We should be encouraged by this."
