The 7 Reasons Why Your Recruitment Agency Isn't Prioritising Your Vacancy

#7 There's a lack of available talent

Continuing with our blog, here’s the 7th reason why recruitment agencies aren’t filling your vacancy.

#7 There's a lack of available talent

Like it or loathe it, this is the reality of the current day.

There is a candidate shortage out there, and if the role you want to recruit requires rare skills, you need to read this.

This is not the time to be negotiating the fee down. Your recruiter will be doing everything they can to recruit your role. This isn’t a bish bosh, a CV magically falls out of thin air and hey presto, here’s your perfect candidate.

Neither is it one where there are potentially 20 people already registered that they could send over CVs. This is a vacancy where careful, thought out advertising is required. Passive candidates need to be seduced, and once engaged with the idea of your vacancy, fully screened, met in person and only then, their CV released to you.

What can you do to help?

Ensure you have a full job specification, including a person spec and a full list of benefits. These benefits need to answer the questions “why should top talent want to work for you”?

Give them time to recruit … to find the right person. The best things in life are there for those who wait, the saying goes, and rushing your recruitment to put a square peg in a round hole will be costly in the long run.

Ask for guidance on the salary to attract the right person for your role. Paying less than the market rate will leave you feeling that you’ve been let down by the recruitment agency, but in actual fact, it's just that the talent isn’t there for that salary.

It may also be that you need to look at other options that perhaps are not the ideal fit, but could do the job. You may be able to train in a particular area, for example.

In short, partner with your trusted recruiter. They only make money if they successfully place someone with you, so it is in their interest to get it right for you. Work with them to find the right person, ensure you are offering a good salary and benefits package to attract the talent, and work with your recruiter to ensure your expectations of your time to hire are realistic.
